DAY 12: Amazing Grace
Psalm 103:8-12 – “The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.”
I’m so thankful God doesn’t treat us our sins deserve. I’m thankful he is slow to anger and abounding in love. I’m thankful that the reason we love him is because he first loved us (1 John 4:19). I’m thankful that he draws us to himself – “I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness” (Jeremiah 31:3). And I’m thankful that no one is beyond his reach – “All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out” (John 6:37).
I know it’s difficult day-after-day to pray for a subject as painful as abortion. So we need to keep our eyes on the Lord. When we do that our hope will be renewed and our faith will be refreshed.
As Helen Lemmel put it so beautifully in her hymn Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus:
“O soul are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There's light for a look at the Savior
And life more abundant and free
Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace”
Today, as we gather together on the Lord’s day to worship, let’s praise God for his amazing grace!
