"Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, The power and the glory, The victory and the majesty; For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, And You are exalted as head over all." 1 Chronicles 29:11
It’s Wednesday as I write this and I am struck by the fact that by the middle of the week it is so easy to get bogged down in the reality of everyday life and to lose sight of the bigger picture of God’s work in my life. I find it’s not uncommon to let the challenges of the week, at work, or at home, or in relationships, rob us of the hope we have in Jesus Christ. In contemporary Christianity there is sometimes a tendency to view God as our buddy and a supporter Who is just kind of there if we need Him. And while God is a friend to us, it is important to remember that He is so much more than that.
God is just that, He is God. He is enthroned in heaven, seated in glory, He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, from everlasting to everlasting, omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent, and basically so much bigger than I could ever imagine. And this God of the universe actually cares about little, sinful me. That fact alone should give us pause and amaze us, but not only that He loved us so much that when we were dead in our sins, He made a way for us. But not just by snapping His fingers, no, He came to earth and lived as a human, was rejected by those He came to save, and died on a cruel roman cross in order to take the punishment for our sins. Hallelujah, what a Savior!
So take some time in the middle of your busy week and remember that you are not alone, that you don’t have to face the trials and tribulations of this life by yourself. You have a God, and remember just how big of a God, that loves you and cares about you despite yourself. He is on His throne in glory, commanding the vast universe and still cares about you. Take your worries to Him, bring your praises before Him, and give your week over to Him. Go out in His power for the rest of your week not being ashamed to boldly declare His name and His glory, and sharing with others the hope that is in you through the saving work of Jesus Christ!
