Psalm 100:4 - “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.” (NKJV)
Have you thanked God for anything lately? How about today? While there is so much pain, hurt, and trouble around us in the world today there is still plenty to be thankful for. And that is how we should start our day, that is how we should align our attitude towards the day. What can we be thankful for, not what is wrong today. If we keep our eyes focused on the good things, on our hope that is in Christ, our daily perspective will be so much brighter.
This act of thankfulness helps take us out of a selfish centered worldview and allows us to focus on things from a heavenly perspective. Imagine what your day would look like if instead of starting the day with all the thoughts about what you need and what is wrong, you started it off by praising God and thanking Him for the many things you have and your positive circumstances. The ability to focus on the good, rather than the negative will change your perspective for the better.
So how do we do that, well, we have to think about all the things we take for granted. You can be thankful for a new day, the warm bed you slept in, the food that awaits you, the relationships you have with family and friends, the job that provides for your family, etc. The more you think on the positive things in your life the smaller your problems and worries will become. We spend a lot of time dwelling on negative things, bad experiences, illnesses, and strife in the world. The more we dwell on these things the more our attitudes are turned toward these things, and the more negative we feel, and end up reacting negatively toward others.
So start the day on a positive note, enter into the Lord’s gates with thanksgiving and praise! Start your day with thanking God for all He has done for you, how He has always been faithful to you, and bless His name. Keep that your focus and see how much differently your day turns out.
