A while ago I was reading in 1 Corinthians and there was a passage that talks about the Spirit of God. For some reason the way this translation worded it gave me a much different perspective than I’ve seen before. It talked about how our own spirit can only let us know our own mind. And that the Spirit of God reveals His mind to us. It suddenly became so clear to me that without the Spirit of God living inside a person it is impossible for them to understand the things of God. So how do we ever get to the place where we ask Christ into our life? It is by the Spirit’s drawing.
It took me to a time when I was praying for someone who had walked away from the Lord. This person was so very dear to me and I couldn't imagine how, with everything she knew about the Lord, she could've walked away. And in light of that, how would she ever be restored to him. At that time I was reading in John during my daily time in the Word and I read the verse, John 6:44, “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him.” I realized that God loved her way more than I ever could and it would be by the drawing of the Holy Spirit that she could be turned to Him. I began praying that the Holy Spirit's voice would be louder than any of the other voices pulling her away. And, though it took some time, she did eventually turn back to Jesus!
You know sometimes we don’t give enough credit to the Spirit as a part of the Trinity. I think we sometimes think of Him as the younger, unimpressive brother. But wow! Without Him none of us would ever know God! His power and ministry is so very mighty and completely necessary!
1 Corinthians 2:10–13 - “these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.” (NIV)
