“Perfect Peace”
Isaiah 26:3 - “The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace,
Because he trusts in You.”
Peace is something people pursue. And this verse talks about perfect peace, which is the peace of God. It only comes when our minds are steadfast and focused on Him. We experience it when we fully trust in Him. The world around us can be falling apart, but we have peace on the inside. In fact, when our world is falling apart around us, and we are experiencing peace on the inside, that is one of the strongest indicators of Christ in our life. We have peace in the midst of life’s trials because we know this world is not our home. We’ve got something far better waiting for us in heaven.
Everywhere we turn we see indicators that we are living in uncertain times. And when we are feeling uncertain, we rarely feel peace. Instead we feel anxious, fearful, overwhelmed and worried. But when we put our trust in Christ and set our minds on Him, we can have peace. Even if, even when, everything around us tells us to do otherwise.
Philippians 4:6–7 - “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
So, when you are feeling uncertain, pray. Take it to the Lord in prayer. When we do, He will give us peace.
How can we put our trust in Christ? Evaluate what you are filling your thoughts with. While we can’t hide from what’s happening in the world, we can limit the amount of news we watch and the social media we read. We can fill our thoughts with God’s Word through daily time in His Word, meditation and memorization. We can’t allow fear and worry to overwhelm us.
Every time negative thoughts and feelings enter our minds and distract or discourage us, we need to replace them with truth from the Word of God. Have a favorite Scripture taped to your mirror or your fridge. Pick Scriptures that remind you of God’s goodness and the fact that He is 100% faithful, therefore He can be trusted.
If you were to rank your ‘peace level’ on a scale of 1 to 10 right now, 10 being high, where would you rank yourself? If you are feeling uncertain, anxious, fearful, and overwhelmed, ask yourself when you last opened God’s Word; when you last meditated on Scripture, what was the last verse you memorized. Go to the Word. Learn the promises of God, and know that God can be trusted to get you through whatever concerns you have this day.
Here are the lyrics to one of my favorite songs called “He Is Able” by Gregory F. Furguson, Rory J. Noland.
He is able more than able
To accomplish what concerns me today
He is able more than able
To handle anything that comes my way
He is able more than able
To do much more than I could ever dream
He is able more than able
To make me what He wants me to be.
Trust the Lord. He is able to give you perfect peace in the midst of life’s storms.
