Advent Devotionals: Day 20
Our Salvation was Carefully Orchestrated
2 Peter 1:16
"For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty."
The purpose of Peter’s first chapter is to provide full confidence of one’s salvation. In the previous verses, assurance of salvation is found by spiritual growth of the characteristics listed. In today’s verse, even more concrete evidence is given: eyewitness reports of Jesus Christ fulfilling all the words of the prophets! The odds of this happening have been compared to covering the entire state of Texas two feet deep in silver dollars, and asking a blind man to pick up the ONE coin that is marked differently from all the rest; it would be complete luck if he did!
Peter assured us that our salvation is not based on luck, but on carefully orchestrated events by an all-knowing, all-loving God. Wow! Are you encouraged by the truth of this thought?
As you reflect on the teachings of Scripture, allow your soul to rest in confidence of this certainty. Reread the first chapter of 2 Peter and be at peace in the knowledge that
your salvation is 100% reality. Rest in the hope and worship of God.
Prayer: Faithful Father, I thank You for always being completely dependable and truthful. Remind me of the truth of the hope of my salvation when I am discouraged and tempted. Thank You that I can have full confidence in Your word and know that in all things. You will not lie. Thank You that I can rest in who You are and for the gift of Your Son.
