Advent Devotionals: Day 28
Restoration of All Things
Isaiah 55:5-6
"Then will the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped. Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy."
It is no surprise that Jesus quotes this verse when John the Baptist asks if Jesus is the Messiah promised by God (Matt 11:4; Luke 7:22). This chapter in Isaiah speaks of immense joy with the coming of God to His People and the restoration of all things set wrong by the Fall of Man (Gen 3).
Isaiah 35 begins with a beautiful picture of those who will witness God’s glory in His coming, like watching a desert land bloom with green trees, waterfalls, and blooming flowers (1-2). Verses 3-4 encourage the hearer of God’s saving purposes. Verses 5-7 describe in poetic imagery the response of those who witness God's glory and righteousness. The final verses illustrate the peace that will come at this amazing Advent.
Jesus, the Prince of Peace, has come to fulfill all these things. The promise of overwhelming joy that will never end is on those who believe and trust in Him. Take a moment to read the whole chapter of Isaiah 35. Be encouraged at the anticipation of His coming and the joy that awaits us; joy that we can experience now because of the hope that we have.
Prayer: Faithful Father, my King and Salvation, thank You for the promise of everlasting joy and for the coming of Your Son.
