"Your words were found, and I ate them,
And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart;
For I am called by Your name,
O LORD God of hosts."
Jeremiah 15:16 (NKJV)
I love this verse! It explains exactly what the Word of God does for us! It explains what Jesus meant when He said, "Take, eat, this is My body." (Mark 14:22) and "I am the bread of life… I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world." (John 6:48-51).
When I am sad, happy, confused, or worried I can go to the Word of God and find a peace that passes understanding. It doesn't always happen in the first 5 minutes. Sometimes I have to stay in the Word for a while and wait for the Lord to speak to me. If I really want to hear what God has to say to me, I wait, I keep reading. And when He does speak, even though it isn't always an easy message, His yoke is easy and my burden is light (Matthew 11:28-30). That peace or light burden is what makes His Word the joy and rejoicing of my heart.
The great thing is at this point in our lives we can always have His Word with us. People can disappoint, friends can move away, children can grow up and leave the nest, but we can always go to the Word and lean on Him.

"For you shall go out in joy,
and be led back in peace;
the mountains and the hills before you
shall burst into song,
and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands."
and be led back in peace;
the mountains and the hills before you
shall burst into song,
and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands."
Isaiah 55:12
