Advent Devotionals: Day 10
Cornerstone
Isaiah 28:16 - “Therefore thus says the LORD GOD, ‘Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed.’”
The New Testament alludes to Jesus Christ being the Cornerstone, which is defined as the first stone set in the construction of a masonry foundation, all other stones are set in reference to this stone, thus determining the position of the entire structure.
When I think about Jesus and His Word as the Cornerstone of my life, I think about Jesus determining my views, my actions, and my words. When I listen to the news, or read social media, I’m amazed by how convinced people are that their views are true. Yet when you compare their words to Scripture, they are way off. They don’t have the Cornerstone of Jesus and His Word to guide them.
It reminds me of the story Jesus told of the two builders. (Matthew 7:24–27) “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may he be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell - and great was its fall.”
As Christians we will still go through storms, but our faith is built on a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation. And when we live our lives according to God’s Word, we have the answers.
Prayer: Father, I thank-you for sending Your Son, Jesus, as the Cornerstone that I can build my life on.
