All Things New
Revelation 21:5 - “He who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” (ESV)
I can’t imagine living in a world without new things. What if everything stayed the same and never changed? Or everything just wore out and dilapidated over time without being fixed or replaced? It reveals something about God that he created a universe in which new things are constantly coming into being. It tells me that he delights in restoring things that are broken or dying. And we—as believers—have the privilege of experiencing God’s “newness” every day.
New seasons, new beginnings, new friends. New birth, new life, new identity in Christ. A new covenant, a new heart, a new spirit, a new commandment. A new family, a new faith. New purpose and passion. New mornings, new mercies. New opportunities and experiences, new challenges and insights. New faith, new health, new strength and provision. New forgiveness. A new name, a new future, a new heavens and earth.
Are you thankful for all the new things God has provided for us in Christ?
Meditate on these things today, and remember how blessed you are to be in Christ. No matter how bad today may turn out to be, tomorrow is always a new beginning.
“He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.” (Psalm 40:3)
“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22–23)
“I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” (Ezekiel 36:26)
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” (John 13:34)
“To the one who conquers I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, with a new name written on the stone that no one knows except the one who receives it.” (Revelation 2:17)
“For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in that which I create…” (Isaiah 65:17–18)
