“Blessed Beyond Measure…”

Ephesians 1:3 - “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,” (NKJV)

As God’s children, we are of incredible value to our Heavenly Father.  We may never understand totally the value He has placed on us.  A value that caused God the Father to send His Son to die in our place for our sin, that He might provide all the blessings our eternal salvation affords.  We can experience these blessings now and throughout eternity.
Often we discount the value God has placed on us.  We fall prey to unbiblical thinking that causes us to seek our value and worth in the wrong places.

Many people find their identity/value in the world around them…
For some it is in their jobs
For some it is in the clothes they wear
For some it is their physical appearance
For some it is in their family
For some it is in their social status in life
For some it is in the things they own…houses, cars, toys, etc.

For us as Christians, we often look for our identity in similar ways…
We feel our identity is tied to what we possess
We feel our identity is tied to our accomplishments
We feel our identity is tied to our busyness in Christian activity

We should look for our identity in the right places.  As God’s children we are a blessed people.  Our true sense of identity, to which we tie our worth, is in understanding who we are in the eyes of God.

The word “blessed” has the meaning of benefit or prosper.  Paul writes that we have received, “Every spiritual blessing.”  This refers to every spiritual enrichment needed for our spiritual life.  We do not have to ask Him for these blessings.  They have already been given to us.  We need rather to appropriate them by faith to our life.  God’s blessings are heavenly blessings as opposed to earthly blessings.  These blessings are spiritual not just material.  They are eternal and not temporal.

The way that these blessings come to us is “in Christ.”  Just as God the Father blesses His Son, in the same manner we are blessed because we are in Him.  All the blessings He enjoys from the Father we also have and should enjoy.  Let us live life each day as God’s blessed children.

Prayer:  Lord, thank you for how you have blessed us as your children.  May we live life each day recognizing our great value in Your eyes.
