Jeremiah 15:16 - “Your words were found, and I ate them, And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart” (NKJV)
Jeremiah 15:19 - “Therefore thus says the LORD;
‘If you return, then I will bring you back; You shall stand before Me; If you take out the precious from the vile, You shall be as My mouth…’” (NKJV)
I love these words. First that His word can be found and it can change the state of our heart. It lets me know that there is great hope for those that either don’t know the Lord or that have walked away from Him.
Second, if we walk away from Him He will always take us back (“If you return, then I will bring you back”). And when He says, “You shall be as My mouth,” it encourages me. There’s a verse in Joel 2:25 that is a wonderful picture of what he does…”He restores what the locusts have eaten…” referring to God’s promise to make up for the losses caused by the locust plague in Egypt. All seems lost but God says He will restore it. He will use us when He takes us back. He has a place for us.
I think this is a great challenge to us in how we treat our brothers and sisters who have returned to the Lord after walking away. As they have repented of their sin God is faithful and just to forgive them of their sin and cleanse them from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9)! Are we as forgiving? Sometimes I think I want proof of their repentance. I know God knows their heart so He knows the sincerity of their repentance. But, how quickly He gives His forgiveness! Remember the thief on the cross next to Him? He said, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” His forgiveness is immediate.
I want to be a person, a church that is quick to forgive. Mold and transform me into Your image Lord!
