Who is your favorite "unlikely" hero? Me being a youth guy, a few that immediately come to mind are: Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Peter Parker, and Emmet from The Lego Movie. Of course, there are several biblical favorites of mine as well. Many of the usual suspects are: Moses, David, Gideon, Paul, Timothy, and so on. Stories of the unlikely hero are often the best because we see the main character thrust into significant destinies even though they feel completely disqualified.

Spiritually, we can relate because we see ourselves in these stories. We are a broken, sinful people that God has called out of darkness and into His marvelous light. Now we too, have significant destinies in front of us no matter how disqualified we may feel. The Bible calls us saints, holy ones, those who have been set apart. We may feel disqualified at times, but the truth is that Jesus qualified us through His death and resurrection. Our identity as saints of God is not found in what we do but in what Jesus has done.

God tends to see us in a much greater way than we typically see ourselves. Many of us can look at our lives and think, "I don't look like a saint," yet that doesn't change the fact that the Bible calls us saints. Our understanding of this should then stir us up to live a set-apart lifestyle as God's holy people.
