John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
Oh what to do with the “Red Letters” when they are contrary to how we feel. It’s true we spend so much time training ourselves to react to how we feel…but what about when the Savior of the World has decreed an impartation of “peace” over our lives, even when we don’t feel peace?
“There is a river who’s streams make glad the city of God…” Psalm 46 says, even when “the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea…”
What a time to be alive saints! Questions in every direction, with fears on many sides, and all the while Jesus still declares, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.” That is not only a gift of peace, but it’s a personal gift from Jesus, to us. Like a diamond ring that was on His finger, He pauses and places it on ours. Or a warm jacket on His shoulders He wraps around our back to shelter us in the cold.
Would you join me in a simple prayer today as we respond to that gift? “Lord Jesus, would the promises of Your peace, dominate the landscape of our hearts today? May Your gift of peace, be one we treasure and cling to in times like this we’ve never experienced. From the ache of many families going into this fall school semester, to financial uncertainty, to racial divides and a pandemic spread…would Your peace overwhelm it all, like a blade of grass drowned by an avalanche! Lord, You are the anchor of our souls, and today, we choose to embrace Your peace. In Jesus name, amen.”
