Psalms 16:8 NASB
“I have set the LORD continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.”
Can you look back and remember a moment when your heart was flooded with despair? One where you wondered if your heart could actually make it through the night? I know I have. It’s in these pivotal moments where our faith in Jesus either proves to be substantial power for living, or simply hollow religious practices.
What then would set us apart from the rest of the nonbelieving world? Running from sin? Yes, we ought to. Compassion for the hurting? Yes, it should be our regular joy. But how about in those nights of dark despair? What about the unchanging circumstance that has slowly turned into a dull heartache? Is our Jesus powerful enough to make us different than everyone else who runs to medicate they’re hurting heart with empty vices?
The answer is, He is! But you can’t experience that unique power by simply observing Jesus from a distance. Hebrews 11:6 reminds us that He is “a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” I’m reminded of the precious line in the chorus on one of my previous songs called “Sunshine” that says, “You’re the sunshine in the rain, You’re the purpose in the pain, love burns the clouds away, when I’m close to you.”
Oh friend, this world comes with much trouble, and no mortal is immune. But the invitation of Jesus is to come closer, and know His unique Shalom that no movie, Amazon purchase, or lotto win could ever offer. We’ve been invited to a different way of living, a higher way. And inside the believers lives a Divine power reactor called the Holy Spirit, who offers supernatural strength to make us different, better, and even experience Christ’s life-giving sunshine, in the rain!
