The Cost of “No Lord”
Every day we have 2 options friends, “Yes Lord” or “No Lord.” One is much more natural for us than the other… I wonder if you can guess which one that is? See since the fall we have a powerful gravitational pull inside of us replying to God’s divine invitation to follow of: “I got this!”, “I have a better idea” or “I’d love to Lord, but….” For those of us who are parents, does that sound familiar? Sources for these bad replies are: fear, control, pride, selfishness, offense, …and the list goes on. But can we find any good reason to tell Him, “No Lord?”
It’s like the story of Pinocchio and his father/maker Geppetto. Pinocchio was a little wooden boy who thought he knew how to make better decisions then following the guidance of his maker. And in the end we got to watch how that played out, which is very similar to the pattern of so many of our own failures.
And in addition to the consequence of sin, is the actual cost of missing God’s wonderful invitation. I carried a new song called “About Your Business” for 10 years before just releasing May 28th as the first track on the new “Bow Everything” record. One of the key lines is:
“I’m gonna stay about Your business,
‘cause I sure would hate to miss this.
You’re the reason why we exist, so I’m gonna stay about your business.”
The truth is “Yes Lord” is the most exciting, most fulfilling adventure I’ve ever been able to voyage, and I’m ashamed looking back how many detours I’ve taken over the years. So church family, today, let’s drink in Matthew 7 again as we start the day with the best 2 words possible, “Yes Lord!”
Matthew 7:24-27 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
