My Little Fishies
Luke 15:3–7 "So [Jesus] He told them this parable, saying, 'What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep and has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open pasture and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.'” (NASB)
I have a large aquarium next to where I sit every morning reading my bible and praying. Most of my grandkids have picked their favorite of the two dozen fish. Every morning, those little creatures come out of hiding and gather in a large cluster of fluttering fins, waiting for me to feed them. As I do, I look to be sure each one is safe.
It prompts me to pray for my grandchildren, each unique, each with their own challenges, each precious in God’s eyes, and each born a “lost” sinner (Romans 3:23; 6:23).
I am grateful that many of them can now sing. “Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now I’m found. Was blind but now I see.”
And yet, there are some still lost, some still too young to fully understand the gospel, and some who have not chosen to follow the Master. All of them need to know He is looking for them. He wants them to come out of hiding and let Him feed their souls with His grace, mercy, and love.
I am praying I will hear Jesus’ words about all of them, “Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!” (Matthew 15:6). Yes, there will be joy in heaven but there will also be a party in my heart. Meanwhile, every morning I pray for “my little fishies”…especially the lost ones.
