TRAVEL

I Corinthians 15:52,53 - “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality.”

I Thessalonians 4:16,17 - “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.”

John 14:3 - “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.”

Planes, trains, bicycles, automobiles, golf carts, cable cars... So many ways to get from one place to another.  Big cities have subways that speed you to your destination. There are even underwater subways that transport people under a river or sea. Grand cruise ships deliver vacationers to exotic locations.  A simple canoe or paddle board provides a quiet journey on the water.  A more exciting experience can be had with a jet ski or speed boat. Don’t forget the roller skates are fun too! In Amish country, you will often see a horse and buggy bravely weaving through automobile traffic on busy roads.  A horse-driven sleigh is a dream-like experience as it glides on top of the snow.  Galloping across a pasture on horseback is thrilling. So many wonderful ways to travel.

The Bible describes many forms of transportation. You will remember the greatest cruise ship—the ARK. This beast of a ship carried Noah and his family with all the animals while God cleansed the earth of all wickedness with water. They landed in a new world. Mary rode on a donkey as she and Joseph escaped wicked King Herod. Jesus rode on the back of a donkey into Jerusalem.  Philip experienced an unusual form of transportation.

Acts 8:39 - “When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away; and the eunuch no longer saw him, but went on his way rejoicing.  But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he passed through he kept preaching the gospel to all the cities until he came to Caesarea.”

There is one trip we are all going to take.  We don’t have to book a plane, train, or cruise ship. The date is already set. Our reservation is secured through Jesus Christ’s sacrifice.  The trip cannot be cancelled. God handles all the details. We don’t have to pack clothes. We will all be given a new body. This trip will deliver us to the ultimate destination…Heaven. We can only imagine all the wonderful sights we will see. There are people we have missed terribly that will be there to greet us. Our ears will hear triumphant sounds of joy as we worship our great God. Our eyes will behold God and all the beauty of his creation. This is truly the trip of a lifetime!
PARENTS, GRANDPARENTS and TEACHERS:
  1. The next time you go on a trip with your kids, talk about the trip of a lifetime…Heaven.

  2. Pick one of the verses above to post on the mirror to remind the family of the ultimate trip.

  3. Talk about how glorious and wonderful Heaven will be.  Mention the loved ones who are waiting.
