2 Kings 19:14–15 - "And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it; and Hezekiah went up to the house of the Lord, and spread it before the LORD. Then Hezekiah prayed before the LORD…"
I totally believe in the power of prayer. And even when I don't get an answer or don't get the answer I want, I know the Lord listens to me when I pray. That being said, there are days that I fret and worry over things. I will come up with quite a few scenarios…going back and forth in my mind trying to figure out how I can "fix" the problem. I'll feel so hopeless and drained out and then a light bulb goes on in my head…I need to pray about this!
Hezekiah's example is so good! I can see him sitting down and spreading the letter the king of Assyria sent him that was full of blasphemy and warnings and crying out, "Now therefore, O LORD our God, I pray, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You are the LORD God, You alone."
I may feel some embarrassment that I didn't remember to do it already but just the realization that I need to pray causes a relief in my mind and body. I remind myself that I have a BIG God and He can work all things for good, whether He "fixes" the problem or not. As I pray, the Lord brings perspective into view. Although He may provide the solution sooner than later, the possibility that there may be a slow, over time "fix" that needs to happen, is suddenly not so horrific. I'm able to experience peace and hope for that future answer.
And the words that come next in the passage provide reassurance… "Thus says the LORD God of Israel: 'Because you have prayed to Me against the Sennacherib king of Assyria, I have heard.'
